Water pump impeller damage

Crank my outboard before leaving just to be sure.

How many times have you heard or said that?

I've seen boaters reach over and fire their boat up just to be sure it'll crank after they back down the landing.

I wonder if those are the guys complaining about replacing water pumps every season?

Here's the results of a controlled torture-test, and tear-down at one of Mercury Marine's test facilities.

You can see it wouldn't take too many "just to be sure" tries to surely be just heading to the shop!
