Do you own a used boat that is no longer covered under the new warranty?
If the answer is yes and you've heard the horror stories about major repair costs, then a Repair Policy or an Independent Extended Warranty might ease your mind.
There are many offered out there and loaded with fine print. A brief mechanical inspection by a participating boat repair shop is a requirement in most cases. Since the deductible is usually 200 to 500 bucks, minor repairs and maintenance is not covered. Major repairs in excess of $2000.00 are common on today's motors so a little repair insurance can really make your weekends on the water more enjoyable.
I haven't mentioned liability only policies; in the event of a mishap while boating you would be spared the costs of damages and injuries to others involved. You may already have some type of umbrella policy that contains this type of coverage. Be sure to check, though!
When time allows, I'll be adding some references to some companies I have worked with that offer good policies at a fair price.
In your search, be sure to compare all options as prices and coverage vary widely. A Boat policy is fairly inexpensive when it comes to insurance, and can ease your mind while afloat.
