Most dealers would love you to bring your boat in every year for a major tune which includes:
Removing cylinder heads to de-carbon pistons and heads.
Remove and rebuild carburetors.
Replace plugs.
Replace thermostat(s) and water pump.
Re-torque cover bolts, etc.
Check and/or reset all adjustments.
Change and/or re-lube as needed.
No doubt you would probably have a little smoother running outboard in return.
When you notice a running or slow speed/idle problem,
something is BROKE and it's going to get worse and more expensive if you don't stop.
A tune-up rarely fixes this type of problem and a $100.00 check up never does.
If you can't find the answer, no problem; get your model number, year and HP, brand, and serial number and send an E-mail to Wayne right here.
Be sure to describe your problem and give me a brief history.
I'll do my best to get you headed in the right direction and back on the water.
